Natural Peace

Find stillness and the divine in the great outdoors.

View Transcript
For this exercise, find a way to get outside. You don't have to be in the middle of the woods or relaxing on a beach. Even a simple walk in a yard or a park will work just fine. Once you're outside, close your eyes and take a deep breath in. As you exhale, imagine all the tension melting off your body. You might find it more comfortable to sit down if you'd like. Keep breathing fully and deeply, each breath dropping more and more unnecessary stress. Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. Now bring your attention to the sounds surrounding you. What do you hear? How would you describe those noises? What sounds come from nature and what sounds come from humans? Open your eyes and let your vision drift to the areas beneath you near the ground. What elements of nature do you notice? Are there flowers springing up from the dirt? Can you see any insects or worms? Now bring your eyes to your level keeping your head and neck soft and unbent. What colors do you see? Is there anything you may not have noticed before? Anything out of the ordinary? Gently turn your head to face the sky. Are there clouds today? If so, what shapes can you see? If there aren't any clouds, notice how the sunshine feels on your face. Close your eyes once more, and ask yourself, "What can nature tell me about the higher power in my life?" Take a moment to answer this question in your mind. Feel free to stay outside as long as you'd like.
