While You Work: Go On a Walk

Practice spirituality while going on a walk.

View Transcript
Hi, I'm Teri. I'm so glad you're here. Let's get started. It's possible to connect to the divine and find peace every day. Simple daily tasks offer the perfect time to create spiritual practices through finding quiet space in the mind and focusing on gratitude. Ready to go for a walk? As you begin to move, take a moment to relax your shoulders and your neck. Soften your jaw. Let your arms swing naturally, hands soft. Move at a comfortable pace. There's no rush. Now, bring your attention to your breath, taking slow breaths in and out of your nose, lips gently closed. Use your breath to bring your mind home to your body and focus on the present, walking and breathing. That's all you need to do right now. Slow, easy inhale and slow, easy exhale. For the next couple of minutes, pay attention to your breath. When your thoughts wander, just gently come back to the rhythm of your inhale and exhale. Walk and breathe. Notice the space around you. Take some time to observe the world around you. Notice the sky, the landscape, the buildings, the ground under your feet. What do you see as you walk? Listen to the sound of your feet and the sounds around you. What do you hear? What do you smell? What does the air feel like on your face? As your body moves and your breath flows, now think of the things you are grateful for. Allow those things to move through your mind, one after another. Find at least five specific things. What are you grateful for today? You are connected to your body and connected to your breath. You are also connected to your spirit. Move your awareness to your spirit, to the divine inside you. Notice the divine light in everything around you, God and nature inside you and all around you. Walk, breathe, and connect to the divine inside and around you. Take a long, slow breath. Notice how you feel. You are amazing. Thank you for spending this spiritual moment with Skylight. Enjoy the rest of your walk.
