The metaphor of cutting one's hair can be a great representation of letting go of a behavior or habit that has been dragging one's spirit down. Certain habits and actions can drag us down and keep us from truly feeling freedom and lightness, just as long and heavy hair can become burdensome. We are symbolically letting go of the habit that is no longer beneficial by imagining ourselves snipping away a handful of that thick hair.

The moment the hair starts to fall to the ground, we release whatever has been holding us back and experience a feeling of lightness. The act of cutting one's hair represents a conscious decision to stop harmful behavior and pave the way for a better future. It symbolizes being prepared to move past the old and into a new version of ourselves.

This metaphor also helps us to understand the importance of forgiving others and turning to a higher power for support. By forgiving ourselves for the habit or behavior, we open up space for healing and development. By pleading with a higher power for guidance and strength, we can overcome challenges and embrace the path of converting negative habits into positive ones. When we let go, we can profoundly experience a sensation of lightness, liberty, and spiritual renewal, as illustrated by the metaphor of cutting hair.

You know how it feels, It's the middle of a hot summer, your hair has gotten long and heavy and all you want is to cut it short. Let's do the same for your spirit. Take a long slow breath. And as you exhale, think of a habit you have that's been weighing your spirit down. Let's start trimming. Imagine you are holding a handful of that heavy hair, scissors in hand. Tell yourself what's been weighing you down. Let that hair fall to the floor. Grab another handful. Imagine yourself free of this habit. What does it feel like? Let that handful fall to the floor. Grab even more hair. Forgive yourself for this thing. Snip. Ask God for the strength to change. Snip. Envision a positive habit that will replace this harmful one. Maybe it's something you've heard about, or read about, or something you've seen a friend do. Tell yourself what this new habit is Snip, and done. Feel the weight off your shoulders. Feel the lightness and freshness, and freedom. And know that this spirituality looks great on you.
